Kimberly McCoy
Kimberly grew up with asthma in West Fresno, an area surrounded by industrial facilities. Her childhood experience of restricted outdoor play due to poor air quality, both for herself and now her asthmatic son, spurred her curiosity and eventual advocacy for cleaner air.
Kimberly’s knowledge of heavy fleet driving gave her unique insights into the challenges faced by independent truckers amid California’s push for cleaner fleets by 2030-2040. Since joining the Central California Asthma Collaborative, Kimberly has worked on advancing clean fleet initiatives and advocating for policies that support owner-operators in adapting to new regulations.
Kimberly’s journey reflects her deep commitment to improving air quality, supporting workers, and fostering a culture of civic engagement. She stresses the critical role of using our voices to shape policies that impact daily life, and underscores the importance of supporting young voters in maintaining their enthusiasm for participating in democracy.
Through her advocacy work she aims to reduce apathy and increase youth participation so that future generations, including her son, inherit a healthier and more active California.
