Prevention for a Healthier America: Investments in Disease Prevention Yield Significant Savings, Stronger Communities

Keeping people healthier is one of the most effective ways to reduce health care costs. A report by Trust for America’s Health, entitled Prevention for a Healthier America: Investments in Disease Prevention Yield Significant Savings, Stronger Communities, finds that an investment of $10 per person per year in proven community-based programs to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and prevent smoking and other tobacco use could save California more than $1.7 billion within five years.

The California Endowment awards grants to organizations which support our mission “to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians.”

Building Healthy Communities: Strategic Vision Web Site Online

In 2010, The California Endowment will embark on a new, 10-year strategic direction: Building Healthy Communities. Our goal is to support the development of communities where kids and youth are healthy, safe and ready to learn. We have created a special Web site to answer questions about The Endowment and changes in its programmatic direction.
