Work and Health

People who are employed are healthier than those who are unemployed, and those with good jobs tend to be healthier than those with bad jobs. The Endowment's work and health efforts seek to increase the benefits of job opportunities and career ladders, such as self-esteem, access to social networks and health care that are associated with increased income and employment. Work and health efforts are the result of a funding partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation. This partnership supports multi-sectoral collaboratives in Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego, all of which are working to improve employment and health outcomes for residents in targeted neighborhoods.
